For years, you have heard about Walt Disney's dream of building a "living showcase that more people would talk about and come to look at than any other area in the world." And now, that dream known as Walt Disney World, a magical oasis being built in phases on 27,400 acres of land and water southwest of Orlando, Florida, is a reality. It currently features a destination-vacation resort, and plans for the future still include an industrial park designed to highlight American industry at work, and, eventually, the city of EPCOT. The first phase of Walt Disney’s living showcase just opened its gates on October 1, 1971 and its time for us to visit this incredible new "Vacation Kingdom" and see the magic with our own eyes and ears. There are so many wonderful and immersive experiences at Walt Disney World which include 4 theme parks, 2 water parks and the newly refurbished Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney. Not to mention, the ever evolving and expanding lands that keep us coming back for more year after year. As Walt once said, “As long as there is imagination left in the world, Disneyland will never be completed.” Although Walt didn’t know that his dream would become the worldwide phenomenon that it is, he understood that the show must always be kept fresh. This school of thought has guided the direction of every Disney Park, giving fans countless reasons to make return visits. As a result, we get to experience new touches of magic on every Disney journey. On the downside… we are forced to part ways with attractions and shows that have held a special place in our hearts for years. Mickey’s Birthdayland 1988-1990

In 1988, the year of Mickey Mouse’s 60th birthday, Walt Disney World celebrated the opening of Mickey’s Birthdayland. The land was themed as Duckburg the town from the Ducktales show. Mickey’s Birthdayland attractions included: Grandma Duck’s Farm with live animals (chickens, ducks, goats, pigs, cows and miniature horses), Mickey’s house including a Birthday Party Tent in the back yard which featured Minnie’s Surprise Party, a Mickey Mouse meet and greet in the dressing room at Mickey’s Hollywood Theatre, a train station for the Walt Disney World railroad, and a live show featuring Disney characters.
