Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: A Walt Disney World Original

The 1970s were a period of major growth for the company Walt Disney left behind after his passing in 1966. With its leader gone, this was a time of uncharted territory. Despite this, Disney expanded across the globe with the Walt Disney World Resort on the east coast, and Tokyo Disneyland internationally. Disneyland, however, continued to grow as well in the 1970s with the additions of Space Mountain in 1977 and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in 1979.
